Jessica Poundstone Artwork in Mean Girls!

My artwork is in the new movie Mean Girls! Regina George’s room has three of my piece on the walls! OMG!!!

Here are some pics of my pics!

1) Here’s Big Feelings 17 on the wall behind Avantika, Renee Rapp, Bebe Woods and Angourie Rice, no big deal. (Hahahahahahaah) If you need some of that Regina George energy in your life, this limited edition piece is still available on my site!

2) Here’s Color Space 27: Keep Love at the Center behind Regina George’s mom, aka “Cool Mom” Busy Philipps!

3) Klein Blue Sphere: Soft Geometry is here on the wall during a rehearsal behind Busy, Avantika, Angourie and Renee!

And who should I spy in the background, with her hair BASICALLY TOUCHING MY ARTWORK, it is the one and only TINA FEYYYYYYYY - and. her husband Jeff Richmond is standing next to her, amaze. Below is a cropped picture for evidence, which basically makes it look like I am a stalker, and I am okay with that. This means I am literally one degree (ish) of separation from Tina Fey, and honestly, what more could I ask for???

Thank you so much to set decorator Charlene Wang de Chen, for including my work in this absolutely fetch set! ;)

COLOR/TIME: New Paintings By Jessica Poundstone At A Sometimes Gallery

So excited to have my very first solo show of paintings at A Sometimes Gallery!

COLOR/TIME will be on view January 20-February 24, with an opening party (with purple cocktails, pink wine and a DJ!) on January 20 from 5-8pm.

More details are below. If you’d like to get a catalog of the show, just send me your email address and I’ll get it to you!

From the press release:

A Sometimes Gallery is pleased to announce COLOR/TIME, an exhibition of paintings by Portland artist Jessica Poundstone. This will be Poundstone’s first solo show of paintings, and her second show with the gallery.

In this body of work on canvas, formal geometric structures mix with whimsical, intuitive color palettes, creating physical spaces for contemplation. The pieces encourage multiple meditative viewings, and serve as icons — containers, touchstones, totems — for the meaning, memories and meditations we bring to them.

From her artist statement: “With apologies in advance for a rhyming list of three...I have found that making and looking at these paintings has helped me slow (shifting to a different experience of time), know (accessing my intuition through form and color choices and relationships) and grow (taking in the meditative, positive vibes that happen when a piece clicks together). I hope collectors will share in some (or all!) of these experiences as they bring the pieces into their spaces.”

jessica Poundstone is Galison’s Artist Of the Month!

Galison’s Artist of the Month for July c’est moi, Jessica Poundstone! The Galison team has kindly published an interview with me including me behind-the-scenes looks at my cozily-cluttered studio :) See the interview below, and shop the Mindfulness Puzzle Set and Mindfulness Notecards featuring pieces from my Color Cloud Collection. Thank you Galison!

Meet Jessica Poundstone, an artist and creative mind from Portland, Oregon. Her Mindfulness Puzzle Set inspires a relaxing headspace with original art and an opportunity to connect with oneself.

Galison’s Artist Of The Month: Jessica Poundstone

At what point in your life did you know that you wanted to be an artist?

"I’ve always wanted to be involved with art — looking at it, making it, thinking about it: the whole package. But I never knew anyone personally — other than my high school art teacher - shoutout to Leona Nelson! — who called themselves an artist. It wasn’t until pretty recently that I got more comfortable referring to myself that way, and started owning it for myself... It opens doors — in your life and in your mind — to begin thinking of yourself as an artist sooner rather than later!"

What are some things that give you inspiration?

"For inspiration for new work: buildings, sidewalks, books on art, street fashion, the way the light hits a wall, unexpected color palates I happen to notice (the other day it was a semi-truck’s cab/container color combo that got me excited!), films, certain songs I’ll listen to over and over: I get inspiration from so many places it can be overwhelming!"

What are three things you need in your workspace?

"Other than the basics — my computers, art supplies and good lighting — my workspace has got to have coffee (strong, dark with cream no sugar), water (preferably LaCroix Pamplemousse or Beach Plum) and my playlist which, depending on what I’m trying to get done, is a mix of faves like Talking Heads, Spoon, REM and PJ Harvey, or white noise (rain sounds, of course - I’m originally from and still live in Portland, Oregon!)."

Why is art important in everyday life?

"My favorite pieces of art give me a little jolt of beauty that says: 'Hey don’t forget: there’s so much mystery, fun, adventure and joy available to you!' That reminder to zoom out and see a bigger picture (haha, no pun intended) is important to me — especially when the routines of everyday life feel stifling. Art is a window we can always crawl through."

Mindfulness Notecards & Mindfulness Puzzle Set featuring my Color Cloud Collection are available at Galison or most places books and gifts are sold!

New Frame Option: Color Box!

I’ve been working hard for the last few months on developing a super-special frame option. It’s finally ready to go, and it is freaking gorgeous, if I do say so my darn self! :) I'm calling it the Color Box!

So…what the heck is a Color Box, you ask? Well, I'll tell ya.

First, my work is printed with archival pigment inks on 100% cotton fine art paper. (Per usual.) The paper is then mounted onto a canvas, and encased in a 2” deep plexiglass box. The front of the box is clear (of course, haha) and the sides are the color you choose from the options below! The pieces ship ready to hang.

Neon Pink Color Box frame with "Color Cloud 19: A New Thing Is On The Way" on the lower right jumpin' off the screen atcha!

On the wall behind Lisa Congdon (left) is Color Space 40 in an Aqua Color Box! This photo of Lisa and her wife Clay Walsh was taken by the magical Chirstopher Dibble for a Brooks Running campaign!

The overall result is a gorgeous statement piece that absolutely GLOWS (like, legit people have asked me if there is a light source involved!) and which I think you’ll enjoy every darn day.

Any of my pieces can be framed this way, and they look particularly amazing in sets!

I’ve added Color Box frames as an option on just a few pieces for now; I’ll be rolling them out on all of my pieces over time. But for now, get in touch anytime at jessica@jessicapoundstone.com if you'd like a Color Box frame for one or more of the pieces you’re interested in - I’m happy to make it happen!

Inspired By Elizabeth Dye!

When legendary Portland designer Elizabeth Dye asked if I'd be willing to create a custom Color Cloud piece for her, the answer was OBVIOUSLY yes! ;)

I visited her studio, soaked up the AMAZING vibes, chatted about 1,000 things (Portland-ness, Alexander McQueen, Woody Guthrie and, of course, COLOR) and left completely blown away by Elizabeth's story, her color palette and her GORGEOUS work.

In fact I was SO inspired that I created a BUNCH of new pieces, which have resulted in this mini-collection!

I am so grateful to Elizabeth for agreeing to letting me FAN GIRL THE BLEEP OUT with this!!!

A bit about Dye: Having bravely ditched law school Dye’s been designing clothing since 2005, and wedding dresses specifically since 2010. But in 2020, she started offering something new: color.

In an interview with Portland Monthly, Dye talked wanting to inspire couples to approach their wedding day in a new way…

“Let’s just have some fun...and it can be wild and it can be whatever you want.”

Uh, pretty into that as a motto for like…everything.

I hope you enjoy this glimpse at the collection, along with some pics of Elizabeth’s pieces and some of my snaps from my studio visit. (OMG TULLE IS THE BEST.) See the full collection here!

And I’m telling you: start planning an occasion right now that you can commission and wear one of Elizabeth’s dresses to. It doesn’t have to be for your wedding. It can be wild, and whatever you want.

Louis Vuitton Stores Feature Jessica Poundstone Artwork!

Louis Vuitton stores in Switzerland, Connecticut, China, New Jersey, Switzerland, and Korea now have my work on their walls. See how I’m saying that and NOT EVEN FREAKING OUT? Oh wait, no, I’m still kinda freaking out.

Pictured here are Connecticut and New Jersey stores featuring Color Space 62: Late Sky; Color Space 63: Inside A Peony; Color Space 40; and a custom horizontal version of Color Moment 1. Thank you to the Louis Vuitton team for showcasing my work & sharing these pictures! If you see one in the wild, let me know! Having been to the Louis Vuitton store in Paris, I can highly recommend a trip into any Louis Vuitton location: they are a wonderland of fashion and design. Happy Monday everybody!!! 🌈❤️

Color As Comfort, My Very First Solo Show, Is Up at Rare Device in San Francisco Through January 16!

Color As Comfort, my very first solo show, is now up at Rare Device in San Francisco!

Here’s my artist statement about the show:

“I love that surrounding ourselves with images and objects we love is a way to create our own personal support system of symbols. As we build our collections over many years, each piece — whether it’s a piece of art or a rock from a sidewalk in Paris — has the power to create and store fond memories, good vibes, and positive energy.

My highest hope is that my work — which is primarily about exploring how color can make us feel — will be part of the self-care practice of bringing beauty and meaning into our spaces. I want my work to be a continuous source of joy, playfulness, and meaning for my collectors. Color as comfort.

In addition to showing my fine art prints, I’m also thrilled to share new original works — paintings and art objects I’m calling totems. Both have small footprints and big hearts :)”

It’s so awesome to me that my first show would be at Rare Device. The first time I went to the store was in 2007, which wasn’t so long after Rena Tom, who I “knew” from Flickr, had opened it. It’s been a special, can’t-miss-a-visit-when-I’m-in-SF place to me ever since. I’ve loved watching the magic that Lisa Congdon and now Giselle Gyalzen and Rachel Robertson and team have created. I’m honestly still pinching myself that this is all real and actually happening.

If you are in San Francisco I hope you’ll swing through and experience the magic for yourself - and hopefully enjoy the show!!!

If you’re interested in snagging some work from the show even if you’re not in San Francisco, you can shop the Rare Device website! Thank you team Rare Device!!!!! ✨🙏✨

Jessica Poundstone: Artist In Residence at Paper Epiphanies - Opening Party Friday 10/8!

When Victoria, founder of the truly gorgeous and extremely awesome Paper Epiphanies asked me to be the very first artist in residence for the month of October, saying “YASSSSSSS!!!!!” was a no brainer.

We're having an opening party tomorrow, Friday 10/8 to celebrate and you're invited! We'll be hanging out from 3-7pm - there will be wine, awesome stuff and good vibes galore. (Paper Epiphanies is at 2501 SE Clinton Street.) I’ll also have a handful of my “Here For You” books, originals, mini-prints and other exciting stuff you can see/touch/feel in person!

Can't make it or don't live near here? You can still shop Paper Epiphanies online, and the cards Victoria writes are like if your BFF had been a standup comedian, and she's writing all of your cards for you. (It's like that because that's Victoria's deal, she is amazing.)

A Limited Edition Print!

I thought I'd dip a toe into the world of limited edition prints, starting off with this one, Color Space 31. It's available now at Saatchi Art, or you can order it directly from me

There's sometimes a moment when I'm making these pictures that everything just comes together and I get a sort of emotional "ping" - part deja vu, part thrill - and then I know it's done. That happened with this one for sure.

Here is a fun mockup of a space with this print. (I'd love to go have a coffee there.)

New Work: Color Ideas: Thinking About a Really Fun Day

To paraphrase Audre Lorde, fun and the joy that comes along with it can be “fuel for change.” Let’s give ourselves permission to make fun, have fun — and get energized by fun. Here’s hoping this new piece “Color Ideas: Thinking About a Really Fun Day” can help remind us to go for it!

In the Color Ideas Series I’m doing one of my favorite things: letting my thoughts turn into color relationships and patterns that serve to remind me (and maybe you too!) of an idea that’s worth remembering.

My Color Cloud collection is an exploration of the visceral experience of color - I’m always pursuing that feeling of being submerged and surrounded by the lush, comforting, energizing vibe color can create. And now you can wrap that vibe all around you!
