OG MAX Train - Portland Art Prints
OG MAX Train - Portland Art Prints
This was the very first type of MAX (Metropolitan Area Express) light rail train, which began serving the citizens of Portland in September 1986.
According to Trimet, this is a “Type 1” train; we’re now up to Type 6, which is better in so very many ways in terms of efficiency and accessibility. But Type 1 will always have a place in my heart, as the MAX train that took me to Lloyd Center to get Italian sodas at the Nordstrom Cafe. (RIP Lloyd Center, RIP Fareless Square, the MAX train’s free zone, and RIP my high school self. Also just realizing that the Italian sodas with cream of yesteryear were very much the precursor to today’s “dirty sodas” - but I digress.)
If you want to see a Type 1 car in person, you can visit the Oregon Electric Railway Museum in Brooks, Oregon, where one is preserved for posterity.
